		New Dominican York España · 2008 - 89' Proyecciones de la película DÍA   HORA SALA 18 16:30 Aqualon 1 SINOPSIS En Nueva York, Rafael es un poeta al margen de la ley, un "Dominican York" diferente: regenta una casa ilegal de apuestas en el Alto Manhattan, escribe poesía y le reza todas las noches a sus dos particulares dioses: Charlie Parker y El Quijote.En la República Dominicana, Antonio ha perdido toda esperanza. Decide abandonar su país arriesgando la vida y desafiando a los tiburones para entrar ilegalmente a Estados Unidos y llegar a la Gran Manzana. Desde los dos extremos del Sueño Americano, ámbos intentarán sobrevivir a la desolación del New Dominican York. Cómo dice el Poeta: "Esto es Nueva York. Éste es el Nueva York de los dominicanos. Aquí o aprendes o explotas". SYNOPSIS In New York City Rafael is a poet outside the law, a different type of Dominican York: He runs an illegal numbers racket in uptown Manhattan, writes poetry, and prays each night to his particular gods: Charlie Parker and El Quijote. In the Dominican Republic, Antonio has lost all hope. He decides to leave his country behind, risking his life and defying sharks in pursuit of entering the United States illegally and setting foot in the Big Apple. From both ends of the American Dream each will try to survive the disconsolation of being a New Dominican York. As the Poet puts it "This is New York. This is the New York of Dominicans. Here you either learn or explode". Estudió realización, edición y fotografía en escuelas como Metrópolis C.E. y TAI. En 1996 realiza su primer cortometraje  “Tú, tu cerveza y lo grande que eres”. Tras trabajar en productoras como Fulltime TV, Globomedia y Vía Digital, e impartir clases de cine y vídeo en Metrópolis C.E., funda la productora Solaris Film, donde trabajó como editor, realizador de publicidad y documental, y productor. Actualmente reside en Nueva York, envuelto en el proyecto cinematográfico New Dominican York y alternando su tiempo como realizador y editor freelance. DIRECTOR´S BIO & FILMOGRAPHY Daniel “Solaris” Melguizo, has spent 13 of his 33 years within the worlds of television and film. He studied photography, filmmaking, and film editing at Metropolis C.E. and TAI. In 1996 he produced his first short, You, Your Beer and the Great You Are. After employment at FullTime TV, Globomedia and Vía Digital, among others, and teaching courses in video and film at Metropolis C.E., he founded the production company Solaris Film in 2000, where he worked as editor, filmmaker and producer. Currently he is living in New York and working on the documentary project New Dominican York, while also freelancing as filmmaker and editor.
