BIOFILMOGRAFÍA DEL DIRECTOR
Humberto Solás es una figura emblemática dentro de la cinematografía del Tercer Mundo. Su debut ocurrió durante la década del 60 del pasado siglo cuando se convirtió en uno de los fundadores del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano. Es en ese período que filma Lucía, considerada por la crítica mundial como una de las diez películas más importantes de la historia del cine Iberoamericano, así como también una de las diez películas antológicas del cine del Tercer Mundo.
Su obra general es la plasmación de un humanismo que se ocupa en la búsqueda de la identidad nacional y latinoamericana en función de los ideales de paz, armonía y justicia social. En su último y polémico filme, Miel para Oshún, aboga por la unidad entre todos los cubanos a despecho de razas, credos y diferencias políticas.
La estética de Solás es una apasionada experimentación que recoge el legado clásico y lo intertextualiza dentro de las perspectivas de la vanguardia cinematográfica contemporánea donde es una figura clave, ya que desde la tribuna del Festival Internacional del Cine Pobre, que él preside, exhorta a la democratización y la libertad de un cine realizado con pocos recursos que posibilite la inserción tanto de nuevos cineastas, así como de comunidades enteras en el patrimonio audiovisual mundial y cuyas premisas son las búsquedas narrativas, un compromiso con el bienestar del hombre y su entorno, y una ética libertad de expresión.
Sus filmes han participado en Selecciones oficiales de los Festivales de Cannes, Venecia, Moscú, Toronto, Montreal, La Habana, Sundance y San Sebastián, entre muchos otros. Ha obtenido premios en numerosos Festivales Internacionales (San Sebastián, Huelva, Cartagena, Moscú, Karlovy Vary, Milán, Tokio, L.A. Latino Film Festival, Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de La Habana, Barcelona, Cádiz). Su filme Un Hombre de éxito fue el primer filme cubano candidato al Oscar al Mejor Filme Extranjero.

Humberto Solás is a representative figure of Third World cinematography.
He made his debut in the decade of the sixties of the past century when he became of the founders New Latin American Cinema. It is in this period that he films "Lucía", which is regarded by world critics as one of the ten most important movies in the history of Iberia-American cinema, as well as one of the ten anthological movies of Third World cinema.
His general work reflects a humanism that deals with the search for a national and Latin American identity related to the ideals of peace, harmony and social justice. In his last and polemic film "Honey for Oshún", he speaks out for the union of all Cubans regardless of races, beliefs and political differences.
The aesthetic of Solás is a passionate experimenting that takes classic legacy inter-textualizes it within the perspectives of the contemporary cinematographic vanguard of which he is a key figure, since from the tribune of the International Non-Budget Festival, which he presides, he exhorts to the democratization and freedom of a low budget cinema that will allow the insertion of new filmmakers, as well as of entire communities in the audiovisual world heritage and whose premises are narrative exploring, a commitment with the well-being of man and his environment, and a ethical freedom of speech.
His films have participated in the official selections of the Cannes, Venice, Moscow, Havana, Sundance and San Sebastián Festivals, among many others. He has received awards in numerous International Festivals (San Sebastián, Huelva, Cartagena, Moscow, Milan, FIPA International, Toronto, Montreal, the New Latin American Festival of Havana, Barcelona and Cádiz, Spain). His film ¨A successful man¨ was the first Cuban film to be nominated for the Oscar to the Best Foreign Movie.
